Gunner
The H.E.R.O. Child-Rescue Hound
"Some people get upset when I call child sexual predators terrorists, but in my eyes, if you are raping a child in my country, you are a terrorist," says Cpl. Justin Gaertner, a Marine with three tours of duty, who continues his mission in the H.E.R.O. Child-Rescue Corps. Fighting alongside Justin is his service dog, Gunner, a dusty brown Belgian Shepherd Dog (Malinois).
Gunner wears a service vest that carries hard drives and other equipment Justin uses in his job at Homeland Security Investigations as a Human Exploitation Rescue Operative. Having endured the trauma of the battlefield, Justin is uniquely qualified to fight on the front lines against the online exploitation of children. Justin lost his legs to an IED while sweeping the landing zone for a MEDEVAC chopper, after two of his comrades had already been hit. And his buddy Gunner is an amputee as well. Gunner lost a toe after jumping out of a moving golf cart. But like his human, he continues to rack up accomplishments in spite of his injures.
We're honored to have Gunner as a member of the Zero Pack. He's the H.E.R.O. Child-Rescue Hound, and we are proud to induct him into Dogs of the Zero.
