"The reason so many strangers in Iran are giving up a kidney is money. Whether or not Iran is the first country to eliminate its waiting list, it is certainly the first government to pay donors. It pays living unrelated donors the equivalent of about €900 (£600; $1200), and in most cases, donors legally receive additional compensation from the kidney recipient."
